- OGM.8.SP.1Understand that statistics uses representative random sampling to draw valid inferences about a population; recognize data variability and bias, and use sample statistics (mean, proportion) to make estimates and gauge sampling variation.
- OGM.8.SP.2Acquire, organize, and represent discrete and continuous numerical data using dot plots, stem-and-leaf plots, frequency tables, histograms, box plots, and circle/bar graphs using technology as appropriate.
- OGM.8.SP.3Calculate and interpret measures of central tendency (mean, weighted mean, median, mode) and measures of spread/variability (range, interquartile range, mean absolute deviation, quartiles, variance); justify which measures best summarize skewed vs. symmetric distributions.
- OGM.8.SP.4Compare two numeric data distributions visually and numerically using comparative dot plots and box plots; measure the separation between centers as a multiple of a measure of variability to draw informal comparative inferences about two populations.
- OGM.8.SP.5Understand probability as a real number between 0 and 1 measuring likelihood; compute theoretical probabilities of simple events and their complements P(A') = 1 - P(A); conduct repeated chance experiments and simulations to observe long-run relative frequency and law of large numbers.
- OGM.8.SP.6Find probabilities of compound events by constructing organized lists, tables, tree diagrams, and simulations; understand compound sample spaces and apply combinatorial counting principles.
