A producer is a living thing, like grass, trees, or pond algae, that makes its own food using energy from sunlight.
An herbivore is an animal that eats only plants, while a carnivore is an animal that eats other animals.

Every single creature in this chain depends on that green grass for energy, even the hawk that never eats a single blade of grass.

The Domino Effect
When the producer disappears, the herbivores are hit first because their only source of food is gone.
Without grass, grasshoppers must either fly away to find food or they will starve, causing their population (the total number of grasshoppers) to rapidly shrink.
