Open two fingers like a pair of scissors. The pointy corner where your fingers connect makes an angle.
Just like people have names, every angle has its own name written with three letters and a special symbol: β .

How do we pick the right letters to name this corner?
The Corner Goes in the Middle
The pointy corner point is called the vertex. When naming an angle, the vertex letter must always be in the middle.

We place the little angle symbol β in front. We can write this angle as β ABC or β CBA.
Both names work because point B is the corner in both!
What happens if we put the wrong letter in the middle?
Spotting the Mistake
If corner B is where the two lines meet, writing β BAC is incorrect. That would mean point A is the corner!
