Imagine racing across giant stepping stones over a pool of bubbling lava! How do you sprint across narrow logs and hop between platforms without falling off?
The secret isn't just standing still β€” it is mastering dynamic balance, which means keeping control of your body while you are in motion.

Balance in Motion

Your body has a center of gravity, which is your personal balance point located right around your belly button. Your base of support is the area beneath you that touches the ground, like your feet.
When your center of gravity stays directly over your base of support, you stay upright.
What makes an obstacle course tricky is that your base of support keeps changing size every time you jump, land, or run.

Moving In and Out of Balance

In an obstacle course, you constantly shift between flow (moving fast) and control (holding a steady position).
To move safely across obstacles, you use three main actions: counterbalancing with your arms, bending your knees to lower your center of gravity, and sticking the landing when you arrive.
Let's look at how a gymnast or ninja runner tackles a real sequence.
