If you stir a teaspoon of sugar into an espresso cup, it tastes intensely sweet. Dissolve that exact same teaspoon into a swimming pool, and the water tastes completely normal.
Even though the mass of sugar is identical in both cases, the sweetness changes because the concentration is vastly different.
What is Concentration?
In chemistry, a solute is the solid substance you dissolve, and a solvent is the liquid doing the dissolving. Together, they form a solution.
Concentration measures the mass of solute dissolved per unit volume of solution.

The Cubic Decimeter
Chemists measure volume in cubic decimeters (dm3), which is simply the official scientific name for 1 liter (1 L).
Since 1 decimeter=10 centimeters, a 1 dm3 cube has dimensions of 10 cm×10 cm×10 cm=1000 cm3.
