- OGS.9.LS.1Examine cell biology and microscopic anatomy by preparing temporary slide mounts, observing plant, animal, and specialized tissues under optical microscopy, modeling cellular organelles, and analyzing enzyme-catalyzed reactions.
- OGS.9.LS.2Analyze the hierarchical organization of multicellular organisms from cells to organ systems, evaluating how integrated human systems (circulatory, respiratory, nervous, digestive, endocrine, immune, and reproductive) and plant vascular structures sustain organismal survival.
- OGS.9.LS.3Investigate plant physiology and development by dissecting reproductive structures (flowers, seeds, fruits), examining conditions governing seed germination, and experimentally verifying photosynthetic starch synthesis and oxygen evolution.
- OGS.9.LS.4Examine molecular genetics, the double-helix DNA model, gene expression in protein synthesis, and evaluate the ethical, medical, and industrial applications of genetic engineering and microbiology.
- OGS.9.LS.5Compare sexual and asexual reproductive strategies across organisms, evaluating their impacts on genetic variation, human reproductive biology including the menstrual cycle, population dynamics, contraception, and sexually transmitted infection prevention.
- OGS.9.LS.6Classify organisms using taxonomic hierarchies and kingdom characteristics, evaluate biological classification criteria, and investigate how natural and artificial selection drive evolutionary change and adaptations across geological eras.
- OGS.9.LS.7Model trophic energy flow through ecological pyramids, nutrient cycling, community structures, local vegetation patterns, and explain how biodiversity ensures ecosystem stability and sustainability.
