OGS.3.PS.1
Classify, describe, and compare materials and objects based on observable physical properties (texture, flexibility, hardness, transparency, elasticity, mass, relative temperature, and state of matter as solid, liquid, or gas), and demonstrate how small units or building blocks can be combined, disassembled, and reassembled into new structures for different purposes.
OGS.3.PS.2
Investigate and explain physical changes in matter through actions such as bending, twisting, stretching, cutting, folding, sanding, breaking, heating, and cooling, distinguishing reversible state transitions (melting, freezing, boiling, evaporation, and condensation) from non-reversible alterations while recognizing that material composition remains intact during physical reshaping.
OGS.3.PS.3
Observe and describe the unique physical characteristics of water and air, investigating phenomena such as air taking up space and rising when heated, surface tension and droplet formation, buoyancy, and the solubility of substances in water along with factors influencing dissolution and mixture separation.
OGS.3.PS.4
Investigate and demonstrate forces, pushes, pulls, collisions, friction, and gravity, explaining how the magnitude and direction of contact and non-contact forces affect the rest, motion, speed, trajectory, and shape of objects.
OGS.3.PS.5
Investigate and explain the production, propagation, and properties of sound, demonstrating that vibrating matter creates sound energy, that vibrations travel in multiple directions through media, and that pitch and volume correspond to vibration frequency and amplitude in everyday contexts and designed acoustic instruments.
OGS.3.PS.6
Investigate light and thermal energy, exploring light sources, straight-line propagation, shadow formation, reflection, refraction, thermal equilibrium, thermal conduction, and insulation in daily environments.
OGS.3.PS.7
Explore magnetic interactions and electric circuits, testing magnetic attraction, repulsion between magnetic poles, magnetic orientation using a compass, static electrical charges, and building simple complete circuits using cells, wires, switches, and load devices to identify electrical conductors and insulators.
