Have you ever noticed your stomach growling loudly after running around at recess?
Just like a phone needs to be plugged in when its battery turns red, your body sends hunger signals because it needs food to keep working.
Food gives us substances called nutrients, which are useful materials that living bodies must take in to stay alive.
πCreate an interactive visual infographic showing the 3 main reasons animals need food: 1. Energy (yellow lightning icon, running kid), 2. Growth (green sprout/height chart icon, toddler to kid), 3. Cell Repair (red band-aid/healing cell icon). Cards are displayed side-by-side or stacked on mobile. Clicking or hovering each card highlights it with a glow and shows a simple 1-sentence caption. Use a clean white card theme with rounded 12px corners, slate text (#1e2945), and bright accent colors. Fits within 350px width.
So where does all that food go once we eat it? Let's look at the first big job food does for your body.
1. Powering You with Energy
Your body breaks down food to release energy, which is the power your body uses to do work and move.
You need energy to kick a soccer ball, solve math problems, and even to pump blood and stay warm while you sleep.
πAn interactive Energy Meter diagram. Shows a kid silhouette with an animated battery meter above their head. Buttons labeled 'Running at Recess' (-30%), 'Thinking in Class' (-10%), 'Sleeping / Breathing' (-10%), and 'Eat a Healthy Snack' (+50%). Clicking buttons animates the battery level up or down with colorful particle effects and shows a live readout of how energy is used or gained.
Energy powers everything you do right now, but how does food help your body change over months and years?
2. Building Blocks for Growth
You are much taller and heavier today than when you were a baby because of growth.
Your body takes raw materials from the food you eat and turns them into new bone, muscle, skin, and hair.
