Every sound in the world starts with a vibration, which is a rapid back-and-forth movement.
When you hit a drum, pluck a guitar string, or speak, an object moves back and forth to push the air around it.
How do we measure how far that object moves when it shakes?
What Is Amplitude?
The distance an object moves from its calm starting spot when it vibrates is called its amplitude.
A tiny wiggle has a small amplitude, while a giant swing back and forth has a large amplitude.
