Imagine sitting down for lunch with a crunchy apple on one side of your plate and a turkey sandwich on the other.
You are eating food from a plant and food from an animal at the exact same meal! But what kind of eater does that make you?
What Is an Omnivore?
An omnivore is an animal that regularly eats both plants and other animals as part of its normal diet.
The name comes from Latin, where omni means all and vore means to swallow or devour.
๐Create an interactive visual diagram explaining the word 'Omnivore'. On the left, show a green card for 'Plants' with icons/emojis (berries, leaves, seeds). On the right, show a red card for 'Animals/Meat' with icons/emojis (fish, insects, small rodents). In the center, show a glowing yellow card labeled 'Omnivore' with arrows pointing from both sides into a lunch plate containing both plants and fish. Add a toggle button below labeled 'What do they eat?' that highlights both sides simultaneously with bright glowing borders and displays the clear definition: 'Eats Plants + Eats Animals'. Design with clean rounded corners (12px), text color #1e2945, background #f8f9fa, responsive to 350px width.
Are humans the only omnivores on the planet, or do other creatures share this mixed menu?
Omnivores All Around Us
Many familiar wild and farm animals are omnivores that search for whatever food is easiest to find.
๐Create an interactive 2x2 grid of animal cards showcasing different omnivores: 1. Grizzly Bear (eats blueberries and salmon), 2. American Robin (eats berries and earthworms), 3. Raccoon (eats acorns and frogs), 4. Pig (eats corn and insects). Each card has an animal icon/emoji, its name, and two mini badges: a green badge for its plant food and an orange badge for its animal food. Clicking any card flips or expands it to show a mini diet breakdown percentage ring (roughly 50% plant, 50% animal). Use clean cards on #f8f9fa background, #1e2945 text, rounded 12px corners, mobile-friendly.
Does an animal become an omnivore if it eats a single blade of grass by mistake?
The 'Regular Diet' Rule
To be an omnivore, an animal must regularly eat both food types to survive and stay healthy.
