Imagine tossing crunchy pretzels, chocolate chips, and raisins into a bowl to make a snack.
Even when you shake the bowl up, the pretzel still tastes salty, the raisin is still chewy, and the chocolate is still sweet.
What Is a Mixture?
A mixture is made when two or more substances are combined physically, but each substance keeps its own unique properties.
Because they only sit next to each other, no brand-new material is created.

Why doesn't a new substance form when you stir them together?
Physical, Not Chemical
In a mixture, substances are only physically combined β like kids sharing a playground, they interact without gluing together.
They do not form chemical bonds, which are strong forces that lock atoms together into entirely new substances.
