A wave is a repeating disturbance or oscillation that transfers energy and information from one place to another without transferring matter.
The material through which a wave travels is called the medium โ this can be water, air, rock, or even a coiled metal spring.
Around 1500, Leonardo da Vinci recorded this fundamental rule by observing wheat fields: when the wind blows, waves ripple across the field, yet the stalks remain firmly rooted in the ground.
