Imagine you just saw a funny dog do a backflip at the park, and you run to tell your best friend all about it!
When you share what happened in your own words, you are doing something called a retell.
How do you retell a book so your listeners can picture the whole adventure from start to finish?
The Three Big Parts
Every good story follows a path with three main stops: the beginning, the middle, and the ending.
๐Interactive diagram
In the beginning, name the characters (the people or animals in the story) and where they are.
In the middle, describe the big problem or exciting action that happens to them.
In the ending, tell your listener how the characters solve their problem and finish their adventure.
What special helper words keep your story moving smoothly from one part to the next?
Stepping Stone Words
Time-order words are words like First, Next, Then, and Finally that show when events happen.
