Imagine you and two friends each eat 41β of a pizza. How much pizza did everyone eat altogether?
A unit fraction is any fraction with a 1 on top, which means it represents just one equal slice of a whole.

Adding the same slice over and over feels a lot like counting groups β can we use multiplication instead?
Multiplication as Repeated Addition
Multiplying by a whole number just means adding that same fraction multiple times. So 3Γ41β means "3 groups of 41β," which equals 43β.

Notice that only the top number changes: you multiply the whole number by the top number (numerator), while the bottom number (denominator) stays the same.
Why doesn't the bottom number change? Because the size of each slice stays exactly the same β you are just counting how many slices you have.
What happens if we collect so many slices that they spill over into a second whole bar?
Making More Than One Whole
Let's multiply 5Γ31β. That means we have 5 one-third slices: 31β+31β+31β+31β+31β=35β.
