Ever wonder how pro basketball players make the ball look like it's glued to their hands?
It turns out their secret isn't magicβit comes down to two simple rules: soft fingertips and keeping the ball right at waist height.
Before you even touch the ball, how should your body be set up?
The Ready Stance
To keep balance while standing in place, bend your knees slightly and keep your feet shoulder-width apart.
This athletic stance lowers your center of gravity so nobody can easily bump you off balance.

Now that your feet are set, what part of your hand actually touches the ball?
Finger Pads, Never Palms
Spread your fingers wide in a curved 'dome' shape to establish soft Fingerpad Contact using the pads of your fingers.
The palm should never make direct contact with the ball, leaving a small pocket of air in the center of your hand.

Why do finger pads give you so much more control than a flat palm?
