What do a swimming goldfish, a flying robin, and a running puppy have in common?
Even though they look totally different, all vertebrates (animals with a backbone) share the same basic three-part body plan: a head, a body (or trunk), and a tail.

The Three Outer Regions
The head sits at the front, holding the brain, mouth, and sensory organs like eyes and ears to explore the world.
