Solids: Fixed Shape and Fixed Size
A solid has a definite shape and a definite volume, which means its shape and size do not change on their own.
If you take an apple out of your backpack and place it in a wide bowl, the apple stays an apple โ it does not melt or stretch to fit the bowl.

Liquids: Flowing and Changing Shape
A liquid has a fixed volume, but it does not have a fixed shape. It flows smoothly and takes the shape of whatever container you pour it into.
If you pour 200 milliliters of juice from a tall, skinny bottle into a flat dish, it spreads out wide โ but you still have exactly 200 milliliters of juice.
