Imagine you and your friends want to play a game where everyone needs a partner.
Sometimes everyone gets a partner, but sometimes one person is left standing alone!

Making Pairs

A pair is a group of two items that go together, just like a pair of socks or two best buddies.
When every single object has a partner and nobody is left out, that number is even.
Since all 6 characters found a partner, 6 is an even number.
What happens if another friend runs over to join the game?

The Leftover Friend

When you put objects into pairs of two and exactly one object is left out, that number is odd.
Because 7 leaves one friend without a partner, 7 is an odd number.
Can we use this same pairing rule on bigger numbers, like 14 or 15?
