Imagine two frogs starting at 0 on a race track to 1. Green Frog makes 1 big jump, and Orange Frog makes 2 little jumps.
Even though they took a different number of hops, both frogs land on the exact same spot!

How can two fractions with completely different numbers point to the very same place?
Same Spot, Different Names
Fractions that share the exact same spot on a number line are called equivalent fractions.
The bottom number shows how many equal parts fit between 0 and 1, while the top number counts how many jumps you make.

Halves and fourths are easy to spot at the halfway mark, but what happens with other fractions like thirds and sixths?
Finding Matches with Sixths
When we divide a number line into 3 equal spaces, each step is 31β.
If we cut each third into 2 smaller pieces, we get 6 pieces, meaning 32β matches up right on top of 64β.
