Oxygen in Water
Just like humans, animals in water need oxygen to survive. Oxygen is an invisible gas that gives living bodies energy.
Water in rivers, lakes, and oceans has tiny bits of oxygen gas trapped inside it, known as dissolved oxygen.

How Gills Work
Instead of lungs, fish have breathing parts on the sides of their heads called gills.
Gills are bright red and look like tiny feathery combs filled with blood vessels that catch oxygen as water passes over them.
