Gravity is the invisible pulling force that pulls objects down toward the ground.
In 1687, the scientist Isaac Newton realized that Earth pulls on every single object around us, from falling apples to the Moon in the sky.

Supported vs. Unsupported
When a book rests on your desk, the desk holds it up and stops it from falling.
We say the book is supported by the desk.
An object is unsupported when nothing is underneath to hold it up — like a ball you just let go of in midair.
