Imagine you eat 1 out of 2 huge slices of a chocolate bar, while your friend eats 3 out of 6 smaller slices of an identical bar.
Even though your counts are completely different, both of you ate the exact same amount of chocolate.

Why does 21β equal 63β, and how can you turn any fraction into a matching one with math?
The Multiplication Rule
In every fraction, the numerator is the top number showing the parts you have, and the denominator is the bottom number showing the total equal parts.
To make an equivalent fraction, multiply both the numerator and denominator by the exact same whole number.
This rule works because multiplying top and bottom by 3 is really multiplying by 33β β which equals 1, and multiplying any number by 1 never changes its size!

How do you use this rule step-by-step when given a fraction like 53β?
Worked Example: Generating Fractions
Let's create an equivalent fraction for 53β using the multiplier 4.
First, multiply the numerator: 3Γ4=12. Next, multiply the denominator: 5Γ4=20.
