Imagine a new classmate walks through the door, smiles, and introduces themselves in Arabic. How can you catch their name, age, and where they live without understanding every single word?
You do not need to translate the whole sentence. You just need to listen out for three clue words that unlock their whole profile.
Practice selective listening by filtering out non-target conversational padding like Marแธฅaban (Hello) or Ahlan wa sahlan (Welcome) to lock onto specific information.
Train your ears to identify audio anchor cues: reliable verbal signposts like Ismฤซ... (ุงูุณูู
ูู) or Anฤ... (ุฃูููุง) for names, 'Umrฤซ... (ุนูู
ูุฑูู) for age, and Askunu fฤซ... (ุฃูุณููููู ููู) or Anฤ min... (ุฃูููุง ู
ููู) for location.
Clue 1: Finding the Name
To spot someone's name, listen for the magic phrase Ismฤซ (ุฅูุณูู
ูู), which means my name is.
The very next word after Ismฤซ is always the person's name, such as Ismฤซ Zayd (My name is Zayd) or Ismฤซ Maryam (My name is Maryam).

Now that you know who is speaking, how do you work out how old they are?
Clue 2: Finding the Age
When Arabic speakers share their age, they use the trigger word 'Umrฤซ (ุนูู
ูุฑูู), which means my age is.
Right after 'Umrฤซ, listen for the counting number, followed by the word sanawฤt (ุณูููููุงุช), which means years.
