Can your voice sound like a zooming rocket, a buzzing bee, or raindrops tapping on a window?
Making music is not just singing regular notes like sol and mi β€” it is also about exploring sounds and inventing your own musical ideas!

Exploring With Your Voice

Your singing voice can glide up high like a bird, drop down low like a frog, or bounce with short little pops.
A smooth slide between high and low pitches is called a vocal glissando, which sounds just like a playground slide!
Try sliding your voice up on 'Wheee!' and sliding down on 'Whooo!' as your finger traces the lines in the air.
Voices are super fun, but what happens when you pick up an instrument in the music room?

Discovering Instrument Sounds

Classroom instruments make sounds in three main ways: when we tap, shake, or scrape them.
Each instrument has its own special sound color called timbre (say TAM-ber), which is what makes a wooden block sound totally different from a metal triangle.
You can change an instrument's sound by playing it softly with two fingers or gently tapping a different spot, like the edge instead of the middle.
