Collision Theory and Concentration
For a chemical reaction to happen, reactant particles must collide with each other with at least a minimum energy called the activation energy.
Concentration measures the number of solute particles dissolved in a given volume of solution, usually in moles per cubic decimeter (extmol/dm3).

When you increase the concentration of an acid, there are more reactant particles crowded into the same volume.
This crowding makes collisions between acid particles and solid reactants occur more frequently, directly increasing the rate of reaction.
How do we measure this reaction speed accurately in a laboratory?
The Gas Syringe Method
When magnesium reacts with hydrochloric acid, it produces magnesium chloride and releases hydrogen gas: Mgย (s)+2HClย (aq)โMgCl2โย (aq)+H2โย (g).
We can track the reaction rate by measuring the volume of hydrogen gas collected in a gas syringe at regular time intervals.
