If you have 6 mini pizzas and each serving size is half (21โ) of a pizza, how many servings can you make?
You can count them up: every whole pizza has 2 halves, so 6ร2=12 full servings.

Notice how dividing by 21โ gave the exact same answer as multiplying by 2? That special pairing has a name.
The Reciprocal
A reciprocal is what you get when you flip a fraction upside down so the numerator (top) and denominator (bottom) trade places.
When you multiply any rational number by its reciprocal, the product is always 1.

Why the Rule Works
Any division problem can be written as one big fraction, so 6รท21โ is really 21โ6โ.
If we multiply both the top and bottom by 2 (the reciprocal of the bottom), the bottom turns into 1, leaving 6ร2.
