If an ice pop melts on a hot sidewalk, you could catch the liquid, freeze it, and turn it back into ice. But if you burn a marshmallow to crisp black ash over a campfire, can you ever turn that ash back into a fluffy white marshmallow?
Everything around us can change, but some changes can be completely undone while others change the stuff forever.
Reversible Changes
A reversible change is a change that can be undone to get back the original material exactly as it was before.
These are called physical changes because the material might change its shape or state (like solid to liquid), but no new substance is made.

Other reversible changes include melting chocolate, freezing juice, or even bending a metal paper clip.
What happens when you mix flour, eggs, and sugar and bake them in the oven? Can you pull the raw eggs back out?
Irreversible Changes
An irreversible change is a permanent change that cannot be undone to get back the starting materials.
These changes happen because of a chemical reaction, where the starting ingredients combine or break apart to create completely new materials like ash, gas, or baked cake.

So how do you figure out which kind of change you are looking at in the real world?
