Ever wonder why you can see birds right through a closed window, but you cannot see through your bedroom door?
It all comes down to how different materials treat beams of light when they hit them.
What happens when light passes straight through something without getting stopped at all?
Transparent Materials
A transparent material lets almost all light pass straight through in clean lines, allowing you to see objects on the other side clearly.
Clear glass windows, clean water in an aquarium, and plastic wrap are great examples of transparent objects.

Translucent Materials
A translucent material lets some light pass through, but scatters the light in many directions so objects behind it look blurry or fuzzy.
Think of frosted bathroom windows, wax paper, or thin tissue paperβlight glows right through them, but you cannot make out fine details.
