What do a tiny caterpillar and a giant baby whale have in common?
Even though they look completely different, every single animal on Earth shares the exact same four-step life journey called a life cycle.
πCreate an interactive circular diagram showing the 4 universal stages of an animal life cycle: 1. Birth (top), 2. Growth (right), 3. Reproduction (bottom), 4. Death (left). Curved colorful arrows connect the stages in a clockwise loop (#22b7ff, #10b981, #f59e0b, #6b7280). Clicking or hovering each node reveals a friendly card with a quick summary icon (egg/baby, growing animal, parents with offspring, fading leaf). Center of the circle has the label 'The Universal Life Cycle'. Responsive down to 350px width, light background (#f8fafc), clean borders (#e2e8f0), dark text (#1e2945).
What actually happens at each of these four stages?
The Four Stages
Every cycle starts with birth, when a new organism enters the world by hatching from an egg or being born alive from its mother.
Next comes growth, where the young animal eats food, gets bigger, and develops into an adult.
Once it is fully grown, it can take part in reproduction, which means producing new offspring to start the cycle all over again.
Finally, all living things eventually reach death, which marks the end of an individual animal's life.
Do animals that look completely differentβlike birds, frogs, and dogsβreally follow these exact same steps?
Comparing Different Animals
Even though a tadpole transforms completely while a puppy just gets bigger, their life cycles match step for step.
πCreate an interactive side-by-side comparison matrix showing 4 animal groups across the 4 stages. Rows: Birth, Growth, Reproduction, Death. Columns with animal tabs or cards: Dog (Mammal), Robin (Bird), Frog (Amphibian), Butterfly (Insect). When you select an animal or row, colorful cards highlight how each animal fulfills that stage (e.g., Robin: Birth = lays eggs in nest; Growth = chick fledges; Reproduction = adult finds a mate and lays eggs; Death = end of lifespan). Simple emojis/CSS badges represent each stage. Responsive container (#ffffff card on #f8f9fa background, #1e2945 text, rounded corners).
