The Plumb Line and Skeletal Alignment
Skeletal alignment is the optimal stacking of your bones, allowing body weight to transfer directly into the floor with minimal muscular tension. Dance technique visualizes this through the plumb line, an imaginary vertical axis running straight through key anatomical landmarks.

A neutral pelvis acts as the foundation of this line; tilting the pelvis forward (anterior tilt) compresses the lower lumbar spine, while tucking it under (posterior tilt) flattens the natural shock-absorbing curves.

Centre of Gravity and Base of Support
Your centre of gravity (CoG) is the single point where your body's mass is equally distributed in all directions β in standing neutral, it sits roughly level with your second sacral vertebra (S2β), just below the navel.
Your base of support (BoS) is the perimeter formed by every body part in contact with the floor. You stay balanced as long as the vertical line projected downward from your CoG remains inside that base.
